I don't like looking back. I will never stop pushing forward, and that's the only important thing.

Honestly right now I'm fairly happy where I am. I'd have divorced my first wife sooner though as she was overspend happy. I'd be further ahead today than I am. I would still marry her though, as I can't imagine life without my son. My 2nd wife is much better with money and both of our incomes have increased significantly since we met. We both save too, so we are on a good path now.

The main thing I'd do would be to start investing sooner, but I'd have lost half of that in my divorce, but half of a lot or a little is more than nothing. I left that marriage way in the red.

Gotta look back to learn from a mistake.

I'm nowhere near rich, and may never be, but I do okay. In fact, I'm probably peaking right now, as far as income (not counting inflation). What I do know is that I don't care to work harder than I do now. In fact, I plan to ride this wave for a while and eventually work less, with full awareness that I'll make less, too. Having more of my life back, doing more things I want to do and less of what I have to do, especially while I'm young enough to enjoy it - that appeals to me more than busting my ass for money until I'm old and falling apart, regretting not having more fun.

Worrying about how you would do it all over again is dwelling on past regrets. No ragrets.

Lol thats called content son. Its not like im worried or sad that i didnt do it any other way...im just curious about perspectives and lessons learned. To say looking back is any sort of bad is incredibly silly.

When i write a cnc program for a new material, i record the parameters i use (speed, feed...etc) if the cuts dont turn out like i want them, i go back to see what i did, and then fix it. I dont ignore everything ive done because im scared itll mean regret.

If i fully analyze a design, build it, and then it fails a portion of verifcation testing...guess what i do? I go back through notes to see what i could have done wrong so i can fix it.

When managing a project at a large company, i will look back at actuals from prior projects to help with schedule development and risk mitigation.

Now that i think of it...any role ive had required looking back some way or another...if you dont do that you will be no good at the job.

What about looking sideways? Does that help?

In my experience, fully ignoring the past and/or looking at it in a negative light serves no positive purpose, and can only create more negativity in the future. One has to own their past, and continue to learn and grow from it, both the good and bad.

In reality, you are only as good or bad as you are at this moment right now. Past transgressions define your worth as a good person just as much as your future potential, which is absolutely zero today.

5 years ago, did I ooze self importance like Ruffdady does?

To get truly rich, you need equity in a thriving business (i.e. business owner). There are a few other ways, but that is a main pathway to BIG money.

So, I'm happy where I'm at and have been very blessed, but if I did anything differently going back, I would have requested more equity versus more compensation. More risk, but potentially more reward if things go well.

Yep, very rarely are the things in our past wholly negative or "bad," assuming nobody in here has committed capitol murder. There is ALWAYS a positive spin/lesson to be had for those willing to look objectively, and leave the negative emotion in the past.
