  • Any powerglide guys have an idea how to fix this? (video)

The solid shift action shaft can move in and out of the case by about 1/4 inch, when it gets in the pulled out position it won't shift back past high gear into neutral without me manually pushing the shaft back in. What happens is the detent roller gets binded up on the plate with the notches in it. Am I missing some type of guide or what?

your missing a sheetmetal piece that fits in the hole next the roostercomb

I'll try to find one and post a picture of it
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.

after further investigation it appears that the shaft comes out of the hole it rides in inside the case, it can only get pulled far enough out when it's all the way down in first. once gets to that position it cant get back into the hole and that is when the shifter gets stuck.

the instructions for my pro-tree brake have a step that says do not install the detent guide, i wonder why they say this, obviously it needs it, but i don't want to screw something else up in the process

Yep, your missing the guide, upper right hand corner of the pic. Was it not on the trans when you started? I have a bunch of them.

What do you think about the instructions saying not to use the "stock detent plate", is that a different part? Jyro said he has an extra I can have and I'll be out his way tonight, I appreciate the offer. Do you know what thread/length the bolt is, one of the bolts is there (holding in the valve body, the other is not.

That's is not the "detent plate" they are talking about. The stock Valve Body has a plate that covers the down shift valve or detent. It is on the bottom of the valve body. The plate you need is what holds the roster comb in plate. "roster comb slide plate"

This is vb with the "detent plate" missing

                    This vb uses the plate.

There are three bolts at the top or pump end of the vb 2 long and 1 short, the short 1 is in the middle. The plate you need goes under the the long vb bolt on the right closest to the manual valve and the other just screws into the case it is the same length as the short vb bolt.

Humm...wonder why it was left out. Oh well, at least it's an easy fix. Any idea what the thread pitch is on the valve body bolts?

Is this a used Glide or did someone build it? Bolts are 5/16-18.

Haven't called him yet, it was like midnight last night when I got it ready to roll and I'm not sure he would appreciate it.
