No, it's the giant cranes that lower pipes into the ocean, or hoist various equipment into position.... wind turbines, platform pieces, etc.

I'd be dealing with the automation controls (VFD and PLC) that drive the cranes axes. Most of it being offshore.

I should know for sure tomorrow whether I get the job. Apparently the background check was taking awhile but she was to have the results back by 6PM last Friday.

I believe if their concern is.... can I get a T.W.I.C card to be allowed onto maritime vessels... and according to the website I haven't done anything that disqualifies me.

If this happens it will be a real good deal for me, and for them!

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Well... I didn't get a call yet. Maybe tomorrow. If I didn't get the call it's cuz the background isn't complete... even though it was supposed to be. Stay tuned.

                    And then????
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776

Good Luck to you. Oil and Gas can be very lucrative and treat you well. It's a great industry to be in. I've been in the industry going on almost 10 years now. Sounds like you are a pretty hard worker, and that's a good thing for this type of industry. As far as your background, I wouldn't let it steer you away. There's plenty of opportunities and second chances.

I got a call from the recruiter today saying that because I have a felony from 4 years ago they had to pass on me.

So I called HR of the company myself, since I knew I made a great impression on her during the interview. I explained to her I have documentation from the courts that designates it as a misdemeanor and that the Maricopa County courts have for some reason not passed that information out to whatever source the background check companies extract their information from, etc., and also just a bit about the incident that originated the charge to begin with.

She is going to work on it. Since the company deals with huge players in the oil industry they have to adhere to certain contractual stipulations regarding the criminal history of their employees. So... it's not a dead issue yet, but I'm on my last gasp, she has to run it through the higher management, etc..... and they've never met me so to them I'm just a guy on paper who seems risky. I get it.

So I wait some more. I've done all I can on this one, it's in God's hands and maybe he just wants me to be right where I'm at in my current job and has great plans for me here. After all, they are quite happy to have me and I love what I do, I'd just like to make a much better living and I know I can someday as this gets further behind me... but obviously when you have an offer in hand that's twice your current salary there's hope that THIS time things will work out.

                        I'll keep you posted.

Best of luck man. Whatever happens is for the best. You never know...oil and gas is a bit unstable right now...this may be saving you a layoff.

Either way, you've got a good story as to why you shouldn't fuck up, and you've showed a lot of dedication. Keep up the hard work.

Thanks. You know, I can't complain about getting in trouble for what I did, which was possessing pain medication with out a prescription. It was wrong.

However, having it happen in Phoenix in 2010, being let go that day with a warning, then getting summoned into court in Arizona a year and a half later, showing up there, being told it was a felony 6 (in Texas it would have been a simple misdemeanor), then pleading out to a lessor charge of Paraphernalia with the understanding that it would be a misdemeanor on my record once probation is done, then having the probation transferred back to Tarrant County, then not doing exactly what they said (which was completely my bad decision) so Tarrant County told that to Maricopa County, who put out a warrant which I tried to have quashed via an attorney, but in the end had to go to jail in Ft Worth, have Maricopa County come pick me up and fly me back on a fucking plane to appear in court, to have my probation re-instated but wouldn't let me leave the state of Arizona for 3 more weeks......

Then once I finally satisfied all the probation requirements I get the run around about the "reduced to a misdemeanor" part because of miscommunication between the 2 counties and have it stuck as a felony that has fucked me out of 5 really high paying jobs and now maybe 6...

How come when I look on Maricopa County's website, it shows the court order to reduce to misdemeanor, and I have the judge's signed order stamped by the court saying the same thing, but yet anyone that does a background check tells me it's a felony still?? I have tried to get a straight answer as to how the public data info travels outward from the various counties into the data bases, but have gotten no real answer and I have no clue how to fix it from all the way here in Texas.

So..... lesson learned. Do not possess pain medication without a prescription, and especially do not do it in Arizona. It has been an extremely costly experience.

Another reason to hate big government man. I believe your story.

I'm still trying to figure out why I have to do fingerprints after I've done them 10+ for clearance re-ups, background checks and so forth.

If it's in their best interest their efficient. If it's in your best interest, they a slow at best.
