Anyone else get screwed being salary

Just be happy you have a steady pay check. Flag hours ( auto biz) sucks. One week may be at work for 55 hours on the clock and get paid for 20 or less. Next week may flag 50+ hours. Kinda hard to plan a budget.

I get variable rate overtime. Which basically means minimum wage. It all goes to taxes so it makes no difference.

Exactly. I hit 40 hours on day 3 this time of the year.

I'm far from a lazy ass. I had all my work for the day done at 10am except that truck. And it showed up at 2pm. I was already in my "ot" when it got there. It was nothing of my control.

I have no problem working 50+ hours if that's what it takes. But if I can be done in less and am stuck because of someone else, I have an issue

You should be able to accomplish the goals at your job in 40 hours a week if you are salary. If not, you are either being lazy or you are understaffed. If you are understaffed/overworked and stay late, then you are giving your free time to your employer by choice (unless specified in your contract/job description). It saddens me that most/some people think they are better than others for working 60-80 hour weeks on salary. IMO, you are getting screwed by your employer and rewarding them for taking advantage of you. Some commision jobs could be excluded from this as that directly affects your pay. Don't' get me wrong, I like my job and I have to stay late sometimes, but I will try to leave early later that week to make up for the extra hours.

Sounds cheesy, but I don't live to work, I work so I can live.

I work 40-45 hrs/wk on average, but enjoy plenty of perks of being salary as well.

I have worked 70 hour weeks on salary, but I've also worked 10 hour weeks and got paid the same. Whooptie shit, if you don't like it, it's easy to find other jobs.

We got hired in to be full time, 40 hours.

I am down 2 people right now and some work is backlogged. I was asked by an equivalent in my sister group if we're working overtime and the answer was no.

Why would we knock out 60 hour weeks? Between my small group of 4 that would be 2 free full time employees... do you think we would ever get replacements? It would not be justified if we are able to handle the work ourselves, regardless of how many hours we worked.

Corporate = happy the work is done with 2 less people
Me = working 60 hours/w till who knows when
