The article I read says:
"When we knocked on the door, the door opened and the occupant of that apartment was pointing a gun at deputies and that's when we opened fire and killed him," Lt. John Herrell said.

Interestingly the article has been amended to say "with a gun drawn" rather than the "armed with" that was previously posted. Interesting.
And since when are 1:30am knock and talks the norm? Wouldn't they be serving a warrant for the murder suspect - and doing so with a battering ram not a light knock on the door?

I guess he had time to point it at them, but no time to realize that they were the police? Come on.....
Responsibility? I'm sure that the city will be quite responsible.....

I'm not surprised......
There isn't a curfew for knock and talks, or investigations, or the serving of warrants, etc.... If they had a warrant, they wouldn't bother with knocking.

I wonder if the dude even had a chance to do anything like disarm himself.
We'll never know unless the police were equipped with a POV camera or other recording device.

It says volumes that this site reports:
The above reports the the basics, as did most outlets, but Central Florida News 13 irritatingly decided to go with a lede of "A Lake County man with a criminal history is dead after a confrontation with deputies." Ten grafs down, they mention that Scott's criminal record was...for drug offenses. Drugs and paraphernalia were indeed found in his apartment. News 13's headline also describes the victim as a "a man with a criminal history," which, though accurate, seems a bit beside the point in these circumstances. In spite of his apparent drug use, Fox News Tampa interviewed neighbors of Scott who said he was a nice guy as they criticized police actions.
The fact that this website is criticizing a media outlet for being too conservative is ironic. I guess the website linked is VERY VERY liberal.
