  • Highly Educated in Here, Please

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

My lady got into the dental hygiene program at Del Mar in Corpus Christi. The school is pretty strenuous so she will not be able to work. She HAS to get student loans, just to live. My question to you Metroplex Elite is, what is the best way to obtain a student loan? She'll need at least $1,500 a month just to get by. What loan companies did you guys go through and what is the usual interest rate?

    Thanks,
    -A

The highly educated will say that pulling loans to attend a dental hygiene school will result in owing in loans and not having a job.

The competition is too high and too many folks going into that field to easily find a job.

How long is the program? Can she not find a school that's local? Try the local community college they usually have a lot of programs like that.

It's actually just the opposite. The admissions are limited at best. After school most of those that work hard are earning 80k+ just starting out.

There are not many hygienists since the prerequisites are almost the same as a doctor, most people can’t take and do well in those classes. She has a couple of friends that are already hygienist and they make over $50 an hour. I think you're mistaken, a hygienist is the same as a registered nurse but in the dental field.

? I have two friends who are dental hygienists, and I'm pretty sure they're in the 40-50k range.

I went through AES and took out a 30k student loan that was paid directly to me. That said, it was a horrible idea and with a 4.9% interest rate...it blows

That sucks. The two working in my old ladies practice earn much more.

Are you sure they're not assistances?

lol, you guys love to crush dreams, huh? I didn't ask what you thought about the program or even your opinion on the program OR the field, just the best way to go about getting a student loan.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.
