FAFSA will probably be her best bet if she *HAS* to go that route. I personally, played with the FAFSA route and I don't want the burden. It may sound very overwhelming, but it can be done when her mind is set to it.

She will end up getting more with private loans, but the interest rates are higher, they don't qualify for consolidation, they don't have any interest rate protections, rates vary through out the life of the loan, and payments start before you're out of school, in some cases.

If she can get away with waitressing part time evenings and weekends, she'll end up in a much better place.
