Is Rosetta Stone worth it?

I'm not saying I know how to get it cheaper, but we'll talk this weekend.

Why not take two semesters of it for credit towards a degree in college?

Looking to supplement that eventual course of action since I actually plan on using it, and want to have a firm understanding; basically be as fluent as possible since many areas I plan on traveling to that aren't English speaking, have French as a secondary language.

Or more to a point, does it work effectively? Looking at buying all 5 levels of French, but it's a nice chunk of change. I would imagine that if you stick with it, it shouldn't be harder than learning anything else. Anyone on here used it to learn a language with success?

You might learn the language but, will the natives understand what you're trying to say. We? No? We? The older you get the more difficult it gets to properly enunciate.

Don't buy Rosetta Stone. I bought it and my computer ended up crashing (unrelated to Rosetta Stone). I went to re-install my completely legal copy (bought from B&N), and it turns out that you only get to install it twice and then the cd is void; so basically if your computer crashes twice you are are out $200 or whatever it costs, plus pay for an entirely new copy if you want to continue using it. I believe it was also illegal to put it on more than one computer due to some kind of copyright but I can't remember.

Other than that it seemed to work pretty well while I was using it.
