I say thank you, please, yes ma'am, yes sir, and every other form of courtesy I can muster to any person of any age, color, or religion. I'm not going to verbally degrade someone and act like an ass because I feel they need to acknowledge my manners....that's just.... RUDE ..... and I'm better than that.
You do realize I was being completely facetious about yelling at people? You just acknowledged it was rude to not say thank you, when you started your conversation defending it as not being rude. That was my entire intention for our dialog. I just won the internet.

I didn't acknowledge it, I was asking you from your point of view that they're rude, how does you acting rude in return solve the problem you seem to be so vexed about.

      I'll just re-ask the question....

So in your eyes their silence is rude... and in order to stop rude behavior such as this, you act rude in return.... who is it throwing gas on the fire again?

I hope your point is that people in NYC have manners and courtesy, becuase when I went there, they do. The white trash shitheads in central Texas typically do not.

I never said I would be rude in return? Are you now saying that not holding the door open is rude?

I'm sure 90% of the people on here would disagree with you there. I've found NYC to be the worst example of humanity we have.

That is ridiculous. The worst examples are in Reno NV.

                  It's neither/nor

It's polite to hold a door open, but it's not rude if you don't.

Not at all. Those people were likely visitors. I'm talking about people that call Reno home. Go there sometime and you will see what I mean.

You're contradicting yourself. The only thing I said I would do in the event a particular woman was not polite enough to thank someone for holding a door open would me not holding the door open for that particular person, which you just deemed not rude. So I'm not returning something rude with something rude. You were just arguing that both what she is doing and what I would do is not rude.

You said more than that, and I understand the rhetorical nature in your statement. I also understand that you actually get pissed about something so mundane.

Grab a door...don't grab a door. WHO FUCKING CARES? If that's your revenge then by all means you be sure to not open that door for that one person and she'll be just as unaffected by your actions as she was with you opening it.

I personally grab the door every possible chance I can because that's just me. That's just how I am. I expect no thanks for doing what makes me feel good. I usually do get thanked, or there's about a 50/50 chance that the person I'm holding the door for grabs it behind me and says "No, I insist" at which point I thank them, and proceed through the door.

I think it's pretty obvious I was being facetious, it seems kind of ridiculous to quote it. My entire point for our conversation was the fact that you're saying I personally shouldn't feel it's rude when someone doesn't say thank you. I feel that's rude. You said it isn't rude. Then several guys agreed it's rude. That is my whole point. I think you got confused in what you were saying earlier.

Hell I say thank you sir/ma'am to waiters, bank tellers, gas station attendants, people holding doors, or just about anyone who does something nice, or a good job.
I get this all of the time. I am a manager in a Western retail store and we have a lot of families that shop with us. I very frequently use the same courtesy with the older children, calling them ma'am or sir. Hoping maybe that will instill a bit of that in them, if they aren't getting that reinforcement at home already....here is a bit of a song by a Texas, Todd Fritsch

If I open doors and say “yes ma’am”
Give up my chair and say I’ll stand
Don’t look down on my cowboy boots
Don’t be offended by my roots

That’s just Texas talkin’ way down home
Dallas/Fort Worth down to San Antone
That’s just Texas talkin’ how I’s raised
That’s just Texas talkin’ southern phrase

I said.... "they're not being rude, they're jsut not showing you the appreciation you would like to receive for doing them a favor" I think it's obious by that statement that it's MY opinion that it's not rude when smoeone fails to say thank you.

I said NOTHING about how your personal feeling on the subject were incorrect or otherwise...just that you obviously were expecting some form of commendation for your actions, otherwise you will consider them rude....and I never said that you shouldn't find their actions rude... I just said that in a situation like that....when I'm faced with it... I don't think it's rude. I've much bigger fish to fry than to get my panties in a twist over the lack of an occassional "thank you"
