I didn't stay up for the end, but wow. Had other obligations after the Rangers went ahead 5-3 so I missed all the excitement. Looks like it finished well for the Rangers and they finally gained a game on Oakland for the first time in like a month.

Looks like Cruz may be accepting a suspension in the next day or two. Ugh. Enjoyed the offense while it lasted the last night or so. Trade deadline is upon us as well and I think the Rangers would have to give up the farm to acquire a good bat. I say just keep the prospects and stand pat. Why give up the future for an average, maybe slightly above average bat?

I don't think it's that bad, Berkman apparently is planning on retiring and waiving the $4.4 million owed. We'll save another $4 million or so in not paying Cruz during the suspension. We still have Perez, Gentry, Leury Garcia and of course Profar available for contenders and we've already shopped Nathan. A team like the Yankees would probably kill for someone like Profar or Andrus right about now.

Even Soto has some trade value right now and the Cardinals need a veteran catcher all of a sudden. Beltran is a free agent next season and Holliday is hurt. They are a game and a half out of first and their SS and 3B suck! Andrus, Profar and even Garcia would be an upgrade. Throw in Murphy or Gentry and pick up the payroll and it'd be interesting.
