Thanks bro! It, for some reason turned more heads than all my cars (exept for my 510). I'll have another one soon, need something to pull the track toy I'm going to build.
That's horrible! Besides the transmission, what was done to it? I'm getting a consistent 18-20 all 55-65mph highway commuting. '01 ext. z71 4x4
5.3 swap, ls6 cam, prc double springs, trailblazer 6cyl converter, big 48gvw trans cooler, 6/8 drop (mcgaugheys spindles, springs, flip kit, welded c-notch, rancho toxic shocks, some poly bushings), header back exhaust, shit power programer type tune, 22's w/ 265/35/22s (heavy as fuck), intake, 3.73s/trutrac and free mods.
And to clarify, the truck had a 4l60e, I was planning on an 80 upgrade cause 60s suck.
Finally towed the truck home this afternoon. Hopefully it'll be pulled apart over the weekend and I can get it to a rebuilder next week.
When I went to get it today though, I was able to back up out of the parking spot, and started to just drive in reverse but only got about 50 feet and it was back to slipping and not moving anymore. Just thought it was weird it worked for just a few seconds then stopped. Also, once I started the truck, you could hear what sounded like the pump in trans trying to pump fluid and sounded like it was having a hard time.
Rebuilder I talked to said if it needed a new pump it would be an extra $85 but I dunno. Hopefully it's just got a bunch of junk in the filter and making that noise.
Any advice on dropping this trans out? Keep the transfer case attached or not? I've read guys doing it both ways on some of the Full Size truck forums

wait, who would take it all the way down and not put a pump in it?

Every trans person I've talked to said they'd only replace the pump if it needed to be. Talked to 5 different guys this week and when I needed a trans rebuilt in my GTP I was told the same thing.
Let me let you in on a secret: they only replace what is bad. All the other stuff keeps on rolling on, same as before. They patch up what broke, and that's it. They may charge you for a complete rebuild, and end up putting $100 worth of parts in and send it on its way.

Although I don't disagree about the mpg being worse with 4wd and/or a 4L80e... Splain to me what part of the 4wd he should "drop"? And I can't speak for Marcus but he or his parents owning a pasture isn't the only reason to have 4wd. And what mpg does a 2001 silverado 2wd get? How much worse is 4wd?
Well 4wd is tough to drop since its in the FWD Axle, But I would run a well built 4L60E if your gonna run 4WD, 4L60s come out they hole WAY HARDER then a 4L80 & also they do rob HP & gas mileage. MPG wise I get right at 20 mpg Combined City/Hwy driving out of my 4L60/4.8 & in my old 5.3/4L60 I would get 25mpg Hwy all day. Of coure this was with a UPD Cold Air Kit & March Ram Air kit off a mustang ran in to stock air box. Truck ran pretty hard for being a Ext Cab Consistant 9.20s @ 78 mph with 2.4 60fts spinning & run high 14s in the 1/4 at 96mph. I plan on building a 5.3 motor to replace my 4.8 with Longtubes & Elec Waterpump & Underdrive Pulleys & ported TB & Cold Air & Ram Air kit. Hoping to get 25 mpg out of it Hwy/City Combined & get high 20s on the Hwy & run some low 14s high 8s in the 1/8 with it. But its a work truck. I just enjoy having power when I need it & still getting good gas mileage.
Im shooting for 30mpg out of my 95 GT right now. Im at 26 City/Hwy Combined, Hoping after I do heads & intake with battery in the back & aftermarket K-Member A-Arms along with 17inch Weld RTS rims I will get 30+ mpg out of it with my 2.73s & run mid to low 13s

He'll mow your grass.
He'll kick your ass.
And while his kidney stones pass,
He'll piss in a glass!
I'm not going to read all of this crap.
Especially when the first suggestion was put a 4l80 in it.
As Woods said............it's not that simple.
Another thing,if your 4 wheelen and your leaving it in second gear and running through the mud or whatever in just second gear. STOP IT.
Until you get the transmission fixed up properly playing around in second gear for a period of time and then over a period of time it is going to burn up every time PERIOD.
Good luck
Will they be installing "the beast" Sun shell? I have read this is a common failure with the 4l60e. Also might ask for the pump to get larger boost and rev boost valves to get the pressure up. Though being later model these might already be in there. I am used to the 2004r that has a similar pump setup as the 700r4 and the 4l60e is the electronic shift 700r4. If you will tow get better clutches, and band .
Id drop trans/tc as a unit and split it on the ground. Get a new gasket for when you pit it back together. Mine is still leaking from when I overhauled the t/c. Also if you have the t/c that develops the pump rub situation, you might want to split it and put in a case saver piece. Saves from dropping the t/c again later. If you don't have a jack I'd reccomended one from northern tool. Makes dropping and stabbing trans a lot easier. T/c= transfer case
