  • Strength of stock 28 spline axles?

Well my 31 spline diff has chunks missing from the spyder gears, was told it was good. Guess not. Regardless, the diff in my car has burnt clutches and it is stock 28 spline.

How strong is the 28 spline carrier? I'm tempted to just fuck the 31 spline idea and stick with 28 spline and depending on the stock axle strength maybe get some aftermarket 28 spline and just re due to clutches.

    Any info?

The diff will be on a ~300rwhp 2800lb coupe with maybe 100+shot in the future on 26x10.5 slicks.

It's a gamble, seen some last a long time spraying the shit out it, seen other's take a dump with N/A 4k launch.
Edit: I was speaking of Axles, carrier??? maybe someone else can chime in on that.

I wouldn't risk it, just spend the money on 31's

I guess I could just run higher tire pressures to allow some slip and it would increase my odds at the gamble.

What about aftermarket 28spline axles? Would they be good enough?

I can tell you that 378rwh on 26x11.5 slicks isn't enough to break a healthy 28 spline 8.8

I've tried... to furnish myself an excuse to build it up. No luck.

Well that's the thing, the diff I thought was good is junk. So that puts me at square one on the diff/axle situation. Becuase I had been thinking all I needed was axles but now I need both. I've already got wasted money in this 31spine diff. Being put in this situation by a freind pisses me off. And I'm not the type to ask for my money back.

Live and learn is the best way to look at it, but that doesn't make me feel any better.

Why not walk the picknpull and get an explorer's guts?

are those limited slip? If so that wouldn't be a bad idea.

I can carry a whole lot if that's the case, when did they start that? I went up there once and didn't see anything like that.

Where's the best one to find stuff like this?

I ran 2 ranger axles for 5 years at well over 500rwhp. It was a tko car and ran on slicks, dr's and street tires. I only replaced them a little before I sold the car, because I had painted marks on them to tell if the were twisting and they were slightly.

                          Best 60fts were mid 1.5s.

Rangers are 28 spline right? Just the explorers and f150 are 31?

I'd like to keep 4lug so that is out of the window anyways. :/

If you must stay 4 lug you might as well just get some stronger aftermarket 28 spline.

Id just replace them, as when they break it usually causes alot of cosmetic damage along with it.
