  • Teach me the n/a 4v cobra intake.

I'm not building one, I just want to gain some general knowledge on the subject.

I've always thought with that motor the thing to do would be:

    Delete the IMRC plates
    Cut the intake runners down
And put a 4.30-4.56 gear on it.

But, im interested to see what you guys think.

    Stock

    Cut

    Cut with box

    5.0 Cammer intake <3

For comparison the tfs r intake

20+ PSI (8-10 if stock internals)
And leave stock gears on it.

You do know you can take screen shots rather than taking a picture of the monitor, right?

I know what's missing, I've driven my buddy's 4.10 geared 96. But if I do gears I'll also want to do 31 spline axles and differential. A $300 gear change just turned into a $1200 rear end. I can't justify that much money on a car that is potentially for sale at any time.

4.10 is a womens gear. Lol.

                  I'm talking a n/a or nitrous build.

Why not boost the cut runners?

Haha! In his defense they were in the car when he bought it. And in the original owner's (WA 2 FST) defense when the gears were originally put in the car 4.56s (even 4.30s) were not available from FRPP.

Never heard of doing so, but seems pointless, those intakes flow very well.

Cutting the runners would increase the rpm band, no?

I would be more than happy to run you with my n/a cobra with my women's gear

My understanding is shorter runners give you more torque lower in the RPM. These motors/intakes were built for high RPM power so if you cut the runners for more midrange power I would assume it would cost you a lot more in the high range than you would gain in the low-mid range.

Are you wanting to increase how high the motor revs or the powerband?

If shortening the runners increases low end torque, then why do truck intake manifolds have such long runners?

The BMW m5 intake runners are long too, and that's a 8000rpm motor.

So that being said, I'm confused on how it all works I guess.

I'm not wanting to do anything I'm just wondering why, and why not.
