I'd think if you just have them drop the tree and then either offer up the wood for free if someone comes in and processes it or clean it up yourself - that would be cheaper. Still, some work there for whoever does it.

I like cutting down trees. I'll do it for free if you have the chainsaw and a bunch of beer

I gave $800.00 years ago to have a huge cottonwood removed from between the power lines. The one feeding the neighborhood, not the one going to the house. Power company had cut it for several years and it had grown into a big "U" under the power line. Was there when I bought the house.

It had gotten old and died. I have cut down big pine trees in east Texas with a 100 foot cable, 1 ton dually, but I was not going to mess with the power line issue. As a kid I saw what was left of a tree trimmer who had gotten in to a power line and lit himself up till done.

It's all fun and games until a shop is smooshed.

Going along with the winches being used above....My Dad and I cut down 5 large Bois D'arcs about a month ago using the same method. 2 come alongs and a smaller winch (too bad found nails in the middle of the trunk on a couple of them.). Worked well, but I think you better use a bigger winch on that one...

...we also trimmed as many high branches/trunks as possible prior to felling the whole thing.

Got home from work at 6 and that tree is toast. My neighbor came over and we attached his truck pulling away from the shop and pulled the split part down without cutting. Then did the same thing but had to cut through most. Then a good yank and away it went. Did not hit anything of importance. Fell where the 67 stang was sitting.
