Spent five days there, ran around 9k. Could have saved about 2k had we fedexed our snacks/drinks.

If that is how you refer to your 2-piece, so be it.

It was. The only vacation we've had that comes close to the level of good food everywhere was Sardinia.

There's nothing better than the Catalunyan lifestyle - wake up late, have a cup of super strong espresso and a sample of pinxtos, work a bit, siesta at noon, late lunch at 3 or so, and then dinner at 10:30 or 11 pm.

Sounds pretty similar to the life of a student.

It is pretty similar. Though, I don't remember having access to infinity edge pools when I was a student, but I suppose I would have never had any incentive to finish college if I did.

If you're looking to go without a passport, I recommend the USVI. Saint Thomas is my favorite. Bolongo Bay if you want the old world USVI experience and have some cash to spend. Sugar Bay if you want something cheap and more corporate.
Personally, I'm loyal to Bolongo. I'll stay there for weeks and not want to leave. I was ready to roll out after 5 days at Sugar Bay, but it's great if you're looking for a younger party crowd.

I highly recommend Kauai, It is a lot less crowded than the Oahu/Maui, has excellent beaches, you can visit the grand canyon of the pacific (excellent hiking and breathtaking photos).

We rented a condo for 6 days for just under $700. However, I have an agreement with the wife. I cook, she puts out. It's an excellent trade off.

We went to Freeport on 2009 and stayed at the main resort there and all of Bahamas have insane taxes on everything. Gas was nearly $7/gal and it probably is only higher now.

Go to Cozumel if you want to get tropical and out of the country.
