My dog is dying

I am in a good mood.
My pup is doing much better. I went to visit her today and she is doing much better. When I walked in my mom's house, she was able to lift her head and wag her tail! She even tried to get up and come see me before I told her that it was okay for her to lay down if she wanted to. She laid right back down, tail still wagging and eyes bright and wide open waiting for me to come give her some love. She's still weak, dehydrated, and sore, but she's got movement back enough that she can show emotion and let us know what she needs. She is having issues controlling her bladder due to the amount of steroids she is currently on, but cleaning up after her when she has an accident is a small price to pay on the road to recovery.
I would gladly pay what equates to $4.38 a week in steroid medication to ensure she has a happy healthy rest of her life. That's an extremely small price to pay to keep my dog alive and well and to ensure she is not in pain and able to act like her normal old self. She still has a lot of recovery to do, but we are over the hump.
QIK46, I understand where you're coming from, but there's a time and a place for everything. My thread is neither the time, nor the place. I fully understand that there are millions of people dying of disease, starvation, and thirst, but this is affecting me. Right here, right now. I am well-versed in making hard life-decisions, and if I had the choice between a 5 year old dying of cancer that I could 100% save and my dog dying, I would clearly choose the child; however, you have no right to step in here and tell me when I should or shouldn't be allowed to feel grief. I'm glad that you're such a hardcore bad-ass that you can just skip over the first 4 stages of the Kubler-Ross Stages of Grief theory. I am not. I was fully aware that she might not make it through this, and there is still a large chance that she might not, but my animals and I have a special connection. They are part of my family. I mourn the loss of a good pet the same way I mourn the loss of a close family member. There are family members I have less regard for than a good dog. If you want to spew your hard-ass, emotionless babble, take it to another thread. Maybe you haven't had a chance to have the kind of pet that would do anything for you, that would protect you no matter what, that give you unconditional love, but I hope for your sake that you're just trying to be a keyboard warrior.
In short, GO FUCK YOURSELF. Regardless f the time I have spent typing all this out, I have no more of either the time, nor patience to deal with insignificant, petty, ball-gargling cum-dumpsters who have to come in and rain on everyone's parade. You can take your plebeian, "Death is a part of life," banter somewhere else.

Fuckin' A right man. Great news! Very glad to hear she is doing better. My border collie mix is 12 years old and climbing, and we had a scare last summer. I try to make sure I give her plenty of attention every day, and not take her for granted. She's been pretty happy with me home so much lately.

So, I haven't been on here very much because I've been really busy at work, and spending spare hours with my dog. She was slowly recovering, and last night my parents came over to have dinner and brought her with them. She was laying under the dining table at my house while we were eating, happy with her rawhide bone. I'd say she was about 80% recovered. She wasn't eating as much as she normally does, probably due to the meds, and she was still a little sore, but for the most part she seemed happy and as lively as she could be in her condition. The vet said that she was almost 100% positive that it was meningitis brought on by West Nile Virus. So they have been treating her for those two things and it seems to have been working.
My mom decided that she wanted to road trip to Georgia with her friend to see my sister, and they took the dog along with them. About three hours into the drive today, Cherry started to have seizures again. My mom and her friend turned back around and are heading back now. They are going to have a discussion with the vet in the morning to see if there is anything else we can do. If not, we are going to have to make the hard choice...
I'm just in shock that she was doing so much better and then all of a sudden, more seizures out of nowhere. She hadn't had a seizure in the last week or so... This sucks.

Sorry man. Exact same thing with my dog. Weds morning she was acting normal, Weds afternoon I rushed her to the vet. By Friday she was playing and acting normal again, Saturday morning she was gone. I still can't believe it. Hope you get some better news.

I think people and animals will give their last hooray before they pass. My aunt just did this last week. She was good, got real sick. She got better and thought she was going home. The next morning, gone. I've heard of this multiple times with people and animals. I hope your puppy gets better.
