Searching for some finishing components tonight. I've decided on this grill cloth:

As for the knobs, I'm still not sure. I can't decide on ivory or amber.

    Amber strat knob with 1-10

    Ivory

Then there is also the dilemma of what to do for on/off as well as the window. I will probably use some acetate and back light it with some amber LED's to give it that tube amp glow

I will probably get the grill cloth and knobs ordered tomorrow. I still need to stain the center section, I'm hoping to get a bit lighter tone out of it than the rest of the cabinet.

Use deft brush grade clear coat when you finish it. I vote for amber as well.

is deft a brand? This is all a learning process for me. I was planing on a satin urethane clear

Yeah, they have a satin too. You can brush it on and it settles very well giving a smooth finish. I would probably go semi gloss on that, I normally use satin but for that I think a little more shine will do it good. Do at least three coats of it and the finish will hold up really well.

Is it something I can find at home depot/lowes?

Yep, white can with a blue label on the same aisle as the min wax stuff usually. If you were closer I have some I could give you.

Thanks for the offer. Not sure what kind of market this kind of stuff has (older refinished furniture in general). I have enjoyed this project quite a bit, and probably more so when I get into the electronics of it. I could see myself re-finishing a couple of pieces a month if I were able to turn a small profit from them. So having stuff on hand wont be a bad thing.

Hit it lightly with some fine sand paper before you clear it too, it will give an even smoother finish. Try to find something at least 300 grit and be very light on the touch.

How it sits as of a few minutes ago.

I am really torn over the top, as well as the "supports" for the center panel. The way the different pieces took the stain just look out of place. Part of me likes the look, another part, not so much. The center panel came out great, however.

There are imperfections, pieces missing from the legs, small bits chipped on the center section. I don't have the capabilities to fix the legs, and the parts of the center section will be less noticeableonce the knobs are attached.

                            Comments, criticism, and pointers welcome.

Afterva couple of coats of semi gloss clear.

I had to piece together the embellishments. They came off in pieces. After I glued them back together I gave them a coat of semi gloss.

I didn't make it to storage to pick up my stereo. So that will have to wait. I will probably give the top a couple more coats of clear. Grill cloth and volume knob were ordered today and should arrive by weeks end.

Looks really good Russell, were you able to find the deft? If so how did you like it?
