  • 1st Christmas with In-laws

So I finally got to go see my wife's entire family out here in Washington. Spent 2 days driving 1200 miles from Colorado to get here. Staying at an uncle's house, who is normal, but on the 23rd we had a brunch at my mother-in-law's house. It was like being in a fucking chicken coup, just a bunch of old hens squawking away. Since I don't like talking to people I sat at the kitchen table and played on the wife's smart phone trying not to hate life. Until 6 kids broke out the guitar and began to strum the strings and sing Christmas carols. I spent the rest of the night in the basement staring at the couch.

I don't feel like talking about what an experience Christmas day was, but we opened presents from 8am-4pm. 30-40 people opening one fucking present at a time.

What awesome experiences do you guys have with your better-half's side of the family?

well, we drove back home 140 miles at 11pm because my wife couldn't stand her mom. We were supposed to stay for a few days.

    FUN TIMES!!

To elaborate, we basically went to her grandmothers old folks home and ate microwaved dinner. Her family doesn't really like each other so they sit and bitch about such and such or bitched about the food. I don't even know why her family gets together.

I'm definitely not the most friendly person, but I opened up a bottle of whiskey on Christmas Eve and was much nicer.

Break out some Bookers, sit back and relax is how I handle holidays at my In-Laws house. But they are Mexican, and we drink at every party

Sounds selfish. But I guess it's hard to defeat introversion or shyness.

Man I couldn't do 8 hours of presents. My family just goes to town all at once for the most part.

8 hours worth of opening gifts?! I'd have lost it after the first 2 hours max.

Truth be told, I miss my ex in laws far more than I've ever missed my ex wife. And she and I even get along great and remained friends, so that's saying a lot. My former mother in law drove me nuts sometimes, and she's a little crazy, but I loved spending time with her family, because they are good people. Everyone has their quirks. Just smile and accept it. Nip on a little whiskey if necessary. Just relax and enjoy the time you do get. It's important to your wife. And it's important to her family.
