She has a bachelors and is overqualified for the job.. Why? Because the state pretty much creates and forces teachers to use some BS lesson plan to pass a useless test.

I've told her time and time again to get out that BS job and do something that makes money. Even with her summers off and "large" vacations she still averages about $6-7 an hour. Not to mention how much money I put in personally to get these little shits to maybe do some work. The only way she can get some of these fuckers to even care if she passes out candy. I'm talking full candy bars. Lets not forgot all the school supplies I had to buy for her class room.

She has employees are her team I wouldn't trust turning a door knob, much less teaching my children. These are also the same POS's that only work from 7:35 to 3:10 everyday and say fuck the kids.

    55k a year... SHE WISHES.
You have to laugh at the mismanagement of government. They send students home with lists of classroom supplies to buy, your wife has to buy supplies for her own class, all while meanwhile they are giving bonuses out for signing up children for free lunches.

You just have to laugh at the clusterfuck the government creates with everything they touch.

So expectations have been dumbed down to the point where all you need is for the kids to pass a test like the chicken at the state fair that plays tic tac toe. The bottom line is you need more overqualified teachers and they need to be paid more but they also need to be held to a higher standard than getting the kids to pass a test.
My wife has a few "teachers" that have failed the test to teach 8-9 times, yet they are still around. Pretty confident it has to do with affirmative action.

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Seriously, I just sent this IM to Chili:
I really have no arguement except I just want people to respect the profession and people who dedicate their lives to teaching. I know I have it easy right now, but I haven't always and know many teachers that work their ass off. I'm not complaining about any part of my job-just the acknowledgement that we serve a purpose and are a needed part of society. Is that really too much to ask?
              Argh a darg!!

This is really all I'm saying. Yes-there are shitty teachers, yes some need to move the fuck out of education because they are only here for a paycheck and could give two shits about educating your child. All I'm defending is that it is not a 'glorified babysitting' position, nor is it an unskilled profession. Are there teachers that don't know what the fuck they're doing? Hell yes, but most of the time, that is the admin's fault for placing them in that position or they are one hell of a salesman.

I'm just asking for the respect that *most* teachers deserve and to not be belittled by the few bad seeds.
I was attempting to make the point that teaching to the test is more about babysitting than teaching critical thought. I am exaggerating but there is some truth in that. Ok I am done typing on this phone, this shit sucks.

I have a daughter that is head of the chemistry department at her HS, and my step-mom was a retired teacher. That being said, I agree with your post.

The problem is that all teachers are treated equally, whether they suck at their jobs, or are brilliant. This is where the unions come in: pay-scales SUCK. There is no reward for being great, and no punishment for being shitty. My family experience shows that instead of firing bad teachers, they get moved around to different schools, or "promoted" into administrative positions.

They throw you a masters "stipend" ($1k a year?) and/or a coaching stipend and if you run a department, you get a little.
My youngest daughter has several friends she went to UT with, that have given up finding work in their majors, and said "I guess I'll just teach". It's become a "fall-back" career. Hell, a lot of districts were hiring teachers without degree's or teaching certificates if they promised to fulfill the requirements within a two year window!

                  • oh yes , teachers have it fucking made. they bring home work every night , spend all day sunday fucking with school stuff for your dumb ass kids. after 20 years their pay is frozen .they have 0 job security and sign a contract every year none of you fuckers could live with . they get no support from parents . no respect from over educated morons like in this thread . try teaching 25 kids at once to pass a fucking test that some dumb fuck in austin thinks will fix it all . i've watched my bride go through this shit for 30 years. she buys cloths for kids , sends food home with them and every christmas we buy for at least 5 to 10 kids at the school. yeah they got it made. the reason you bitch about them being off in the summer is then you have to put up with them your damn self.

kimmie , leah god loves ya and i appreciate ya.

Yeah my wife gets a $1k a year for being team leader and an extra period off without teaching kids. She is working towards are masters right now and that will be an extra $2k a year.

I'm really hoping she can find a college to go teach when she gets her masters and starts making the 65-70k a year she at a minimum deserves.

Maybe if they are raised by a wise parent, they will not get messed up with the wrong people. Furthermore, if parents took advice from the man upstairs on how to live and especially how to raise and treat children, results would be better.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. I grew up in a VERY religious house. My Parent just celebrated 51 years of marriage. Two of my siblings are EXTREMELY successful. I was a fucking shithead. Smart, GT & Honors classes. Made excellent grades until I stopped giving a shit. I played every sport but baseball, and excelled in them all. No traumatic events to speak of. My father is the kindest, most generous, and most hard working person I've ever known. My mother, while confused, is sweet and caring, and a perfect example of what a mother should be. And I was a fucking shithead. I lied, I rebelled, I drank, I did drugs, I broke the law, I hung out with the undesirables, etc. My parents had absolutely nothing to do with it. In many cases, yes, the parents are at fault. But not always, and to claim otherwise is false. I've become pretty successful myself, near the top of my field. I've got two wonderful, well behaved and respectful children of my own. Solid career, solid life plan. But it wasn't without YEARS of hell I put my parents and siblings through.

In most cases, no, they can't. Admin has favorites. They play politics as much, if not more than corporations. A friend of mine's position in Prosper ISD was not renewed this year, because she refused to do someone else's menial busy work. That person was not a supervisor. She went to her boss. Her boss sided with the lazy person.

Randy does have a point, too. Lots of people who picked a shitty degree plan, fall back on teaching. Those, I believe, are the ones that make up the shitty teachers. And, it's also worth mentioning, the old saying "Those that can't do, teach." I don't think all can be categorized by that. But the examples of this are endless.
