Reading the story, there is a lot of room for the "victims" to have been really fucking up and plenty of room for the media to be straight up liars (which DOES happen a lot) and/or completely omitting other facts.

    On the surface though, FTP!

So, did he lead them on a chase? He didn't make a stop at a stop sign, and he got beat in front of his house. Sounds like he didn't stop when they flashed the lights.

DPD uses the same system we do accept they may not have it in all their cars, most do though. Not sure on HPD. The old school VHS tapes you could have probably tampered with but they were under lock and key also. Problem is with those night shift changed them out and I could see one being lost if people were shady enough.
When I set up the new cars back in the day, the cameras recording was activated by the switch that turned on the overheads. If the lights were on, it was recoding. It amazed me how many stops took place and then lights out...

So you'd be ok with a cop kicking your ass and illegal search and seizure for recording whatever they were doing? (assuming the story is true)

Some cities still have that technorogy, ie low budget police forces that patrol "transitional" neighborhoods.

I think she's lying, cops don't arrest people they just sit in their car outside Alexs office all day.

I was a juror for (of all things) a trial where a guy with a CDL was contesting a speeding ticket. The prosecutor mentioned several times that the in car footage showed the stop, how fast he was going, etc. He was forced to play it at the request of the guys defense attorney, it was nothing but snow on the screen.

I'm not saying your depart does it or even can do it, I'm just saying it has happened and will happen again. There have been plenty of times that the recording has mysteriously disappeared or were victims of mechanical failure when requested by the public.

I seem to make it through everyday life without having any negative interaction with police. In my opinion, if you are having some sort of negative interaction with a cop, you did something to attract their attention in the first place. If you aren't doing anything wrong, then you have nothing to worry about. It's simple, don't break the law.

Keep in mind, I grew up in LA in a dominant, black gang infested neighborhood. Being white, I got stopped and searched often just because I was white and they thought I was in the neighborhood to buy crack. Sure, it got irrtiating to get stopped for 30-45 minutes at a time answering the same fucking questions over and over but I understood why they were doing it. It's not a personal thing. Most cops are just trying to do the right thing a majority of the time.

I don't have a clue why anyone would want to be a cop in the first place. You're dealing with people everyday having one of the worst days of their lives. Constantly seeing horrible things happen everyday. They start out trying to do the right thing to help people, protect and serve and all that BS. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to go out there everyday to put their lives on the line only to have select individuals criticize the manner in which they provide their service. They're human too and it's bound to have an effect on them one way or another.

It's easy to sit on the internet to complain about a cop doing this or that especially when it's not you out there putting your life on the line everyday. They aren't policy makers, they just enforce the law. It's true, not all cops are good cops, but that comes with any job in which you will have good and bad people. There is some real assholes out there but there is also some damn good people who want to genuinely help.

Not arguing that for smaller departments or for those that dont have the proper equipment. However more and more departments are improving tech areas and the gray areas are slowly going away. If you were caught making a stop and turning the camera off in my department they would fire your ass which is great in my opinion. I have said it before and will say it again, I hate crooked cops. One bad cop can sour the community for years on a department.
