cold starts and cold weather

How many of ya'll start your cars 15 or 20 min before you are ready for work so its nice and toasty? Its the only way I can bare the weather. Cold leather is the worst. Well today I get a knock at the door and open it to find a police officer. He was telling me it was illegal to run my car unattended and tbhey have been instructed to write citations. Just found it strange that he stopped in my driveway and knocked on the door for this at 7 this morning.

I let my car run for a couple of mins before I drive when its cold out but I do it for the car not so I can make it toasty inside.

When its cold out I usually wear a jacket. Keeps me warm so I don't have to waste gas. I let the car idle for about 30 seconds and off I go. I'm easy on the skinny peddle till it warms up though.

Its a 5 speed. Does that matter? I would like to still be able to warm my car without breaking the law or getting it stolen

it costs more but yes you can still get a remote start on a manual trans car

In hindsight, I did get an orange sticker on my fox that was parked on the curb temperaily, waiting to be towed to tsm and it said to have the car moved by today or it would be towed. Maybe he was following up. Thank god I got it to the shop on time.

I have heard that the law only applies if you have the keys in the car. Remote start should be fine. Can any coppers in here confirm?

pretty sure if it's locked and the keys are not in it it's okay. if not then all the automakers would not be able to put it on new cars

FYI, It is illegal to leave a vehicle running unattended. Too many cars are stolen like this. I'm sure you've all heard the stories of X- car stolen with baby in the back seat from the gas station.

I'll double check the statute on that as I'm not sure off of the top of my head. This is a ticket I have never written. BRB.
