Nope, we have different ambitions. I need to leave the 20-21 years olds alone. The maturity gap is too far apart.

It seems alot of ex-military are signing up for law enforcement these days because of the sign on bonuses alot of them are doing. Somewhat similar lifestyle, structure and such. Considered that?

Yeah, a lot of my buddies do that but I could never be a cop. I'm too nice of a guy and I'd give anyone that wasn't a white, American, Christian a ticket. JK

I don't miss the structure... I just had a purpose then, I think that's what I'm missing. It'll return once I feel like I'm working towards something. No job and nothing to do has really gotten old... I don't know who people do it??

        Thanks for the motivation guys!!

Wait, you're a Marine, but you're too nice to be a cop? Bullshit.

          Thanks for serving, though.

Man, it's going to be seriously fucked up when the majority of our troops return. This jobs market can't even handle the people here now. Then we're going to have troops and contractors coming home... what a mess. USPS is about to lay off 120,000.

Hey bro, I'm sure it's been brought to you, but just in case, have you been through http://www.taonline.com/

Sorry about the shitty transition. Several of us over in the Middle East will be sitting at home with our thumbs up our asses as well.

This might be a perfect opportunity to take a look around you and find something that your area needs. Maybe a small business or some sort of service to start up. I don't know if you have that entrepreneur drive, but pretty soon, small, self-owned business type work might be the most solid thing going.

I'm with ya man. I left the service in '08. Since leaving, 2 different jobs, 10 cars, 1 spouse, and 2 homes later...here I sit. You lose a part of your identity...if you've got some advice I'm all ears on this one.

I hate how our former military service members are being treated now days. hell 20 years ago you would have been a king after desert storm, back in the day we treated our service members right, gave them the help they needed and the tools to get back on their feet after spending time in war zones and what not. now days we treat them like worthless scum. sure we say thank for your service. now don’t get me wrong I love to hear that but it’s also lip service to me. I got turned down for a job and after he told me no he said but thanks for your service. I had a guy come up to me one day when I was in uniform and told me he hated this country. I told him so do I. I hate the fact that I might die for a worthless sack of shit like you! what happened America? we need to get our act right and start to treat our military with the respect they earned fighting and dying for the freedom we enjoy every day.

I hate to be cheesy with a movie quote, but "Why do we fall down? So we can learn to pick ourselves up."

Hang in there. Two things have always kept me going: Somebody has it worse that me. And I can only go up from here.

I'm not military, but my life is unrecognizable from 9 months ago. Just do your best to keep busy. I'm bored out of my mind most of the time, but don't really feel like being around other people much either. If you find any good answers let me know.

                        Border Patrol then???

You just have to try and keep your self busy - your next step will happen before you know it. Enjoy your time off while you can - you'll be back to the grind soon.

And a few years before that, they were met with protesters and spit on while being called baby killers.

It's a thankless job for the most part.

It will pass. My advice if you're not married would be to jump right into college and get an engineering degree using your benifits. Be a bum and go to school while you still can.

Depression is a motherfucker. It's hard to pull yourself out of that dark place but is can be done you just have to make the decision to do it rather than wallowing in self pity in your current low spot in life.

Your upcoming cruising trip is a good start, then you have to find something that stimulates you that keeps you busy and motivated. Life will get better, but it won't do it on it's own.

Hope it gets better for you.

It gets better, you just gotta figure out something you want to do besides the Corps now. No need for a specific goal like "I want to be a lawyer" or anything just find a general path that gives you the same fulfillment you had in the military and go for it.
