Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I like the new Focus but cant justify $18k+ for a compact. At that range, Id look at the Kia Optima.

I like the Focus and the Fiesta. I've driven both and I really dig them. The Sync in the Focus is a bit busy but I think anyone can get used to it...
Also, the Chevy Cruze Eco get's 42mpg. However I drove a rental and hated it. It could just be that one car though. IMO the Focus is a much nicer car with a better ride and MUCH better handling.
You might also want to look at the Hyundai Elantra. The new one is pretty good looking.

and don't listen to people who tell you to buy a "cash car" fuck that!!! I just bought a new car and parked my truck. I bought a Chevrolet Cruze and it gets 32 MPG. I pay for convenience so buying a new car was the only option for me. Plus I take clients out for lunch and I am not pulling up in front of their office in Highland park in a 91 Civic. That's just me though. If you can handle a little bit more payment I highly recommend the Cruze. It's a cool car.

I'd hold out until Toyota can get some cars on the lot. Without competition from last year's #1 in sales the remaining car companies aren't giving near the rebates or incentives they would have last summer. Before the tsunami you could have easily gotten into a Camry for that price range.
Oh and on the VW, at least you get free donuts while it's in for service. Surely they've improved quality since they started making money hand over fist but there have been 3 in my household and none of them could ever go more than 90 days without going in for something unscheduled. Sunroof tracks, seat tracks, window regulators, whatever the EPC solenoid is, etc... If you bought a manual transmission with a n/a 2.0, with manual windows and no sunroof it'd probably be a decent car though.

New car prices blow right now. I can't believe how high some of the shit is.
That said, I agree with cooter, especially if considering an american 4cyl car. Nothing better than a accord. I had a 96 in college I purchased with 100k miles, sold with 150k miles, and the girl is still driving it now with over 250k miles with nothing done other than timing belt.

I bought a used 98 Corolla when I was driving half way across the metroplex for work every day. Paid $6800 for it (I want to say this was 2003). It had 40k miles when I bought it, and around 90k when I gave it to my sister a couple of years later. It usually got 34-35mpg for me but on a road trip to Orlando it averaged 38 both ways, this was doing 80+ most of the way. My sister easily put 100k on the car over the next 5 years before giving it to her 16 year old son, who drove it up until he was t-boned.
In 200k miles there were no problems with the car other a couple of batteries. Had to put brakes on it once, replace the belts a few times and change the oil. That's it. It had power windows, locks, a/c, aftermarket cruise and I added satellite radio to it. Yeah it was small car and felt cheap to drive but it got great gas mileage and never had any problems at all. The shocks, thermostat, struts, hoses, water pump, all seals, auto trans, cv axles, etc... all lasted 200+k miles problem free. If it wasn't totalled it'd still bring $2000 used today.

What do you guys suggest? The new Focus is nice but north of $17k.. the Fiesta is a bit cheaper at $15k. Kia Forte sedan could be had around $13k. Plan on putting $2000-3000 down and would like $150 payments. That should put me around $13k-14k or so to spend. I prefer newish over style.
Filled my tank up for the first time yesterday and it cost me less then $35 and I can get a good 400+ miles out of a tank.
Plus like what was said above you're not going to pick up a client in a daily beater.....Last edited by papapepper; 06-16-2011, 07:45 AM.
