It was easier to handle than my model 29 (.44 mag) and the hogs never seemed to know the difference.
I love the shit out of my 6" model 29. I've hunted with that many times. Those are great guns.

I picked one up at Walmart right after they announced no more handgun sales...for $319. in Desoto. No shit! It was around Xmas '93? Smoothest action I've ever felt in a production wheel gun (other than my Python, of course).

        not true

I'm glad it works for you, Jyro, but there's no way I'd do it, either. It's just not an ethical shot (not that I care about wounding pigs).

50 rounds for 17 dollars, avilability of ammo and the number of pigs. I sit in the brush 30 feet or so from the feeder, head shots put them in the dirt. At that distance, I can hit within a 1/4 inch of the aim point, always around the ear or between the eyes. With the .17, I have stalked within 15' of individual pigs. Groups are much harder unless the wind is just right and you have brush between you and them because of all the small ones. I've never had one run at all after shot.

I don't think it's ethical to use a simi and take shots at a group with them running and not being able to aim. You have no idea where you hit them and they run off gut shot.

Mines a single shot so I have to sight just right to get what I want.

But, whatever, I have several 30/06 guns. I choose to use the .17, it's more of a challenge and causes no meat loss.

Ear holing them with a .17 will certainly do the trick.

I don't care what is in my hands when it comes to slaying pigs, just as long as I kill as many as possible

Wouldn't the title of this thread make more sense if it was "hog gun for under $200"???
