Just because you can do it doesn't necessarily mean you should. It's on the verge of negligence as far as humanely killing.

While I agree, I've seen a farmer or two use anything close at hand to shoot pigs as they cause a large destruction of their yearly profit. Also seen the same in relation to coyotes as well.

Some shot is better than none, but if you have a choice use a larger caliber.

I use to shoot hogs with a 77gr sierra matchking @ 3000fps with my 24" barrel, that was in one out the other head canoe. I'm switching to an AR-10 though for less chasing and blood trail following.

I never had to trail with the 250 but I limited my shots to ear only. My dad uses the Monarch 55gr sp stuff and lung shoots them with pretty good results I was very skeptical but on average he shoots 2-3 per week with no problems yet.

Well I'm rarely shooting just one. When you get 10 of them in a group, one of them gets a head shot, the other 9 get whatever the fuck I can give them while they are running.

That's why I usually use a well built bullet and line them up.

I don't care how well built the bullet is, you're not getting 10 of them in a perfect line, and if you did you'd get maybe 3 - one in a critical area and the other two in the ass and gut probably if you were incredibly lucky. Last time we were at the lease a machine wasn't even enough for the quantity of pigs out there.

Three isn't too big of an issue depending on size but on average it's two due to lack of patience. Usually won't get more than 2 shots around here as it's just not that open in the area's I get to hunt.

I'm hitting each with a .223 or .308 round, you're shooting a rimfire at full grown animals. That isn't even legal on game animals. Using a powerful cartridge gives you some buffer for errors on aiming, especially if you're shooting large groups. I have never had to put a second shot into any pig I've hit.

I haven't hunted hogs in a long time, and have never killed a lot of them, but I always enjoyed using a larger caliber handgun. I had borrowed my step-dads Thompson Contender with .44 mag and .223 barrels. I ended up buying a 6" model 657 Smith (.41 mag) that I used most of the time. It was easier to handle than my model 29 (.44 mag) and the hogs never seemed to know the difference.
