yea, native streaming is decent but ps3 media server will let you stream more formats.
the main thing (for the HD torrenting folks) being .MKV files. those are muxed to the ps3 as .m2ts, a file it can understand.
other non-native formats are transcoded on the fly.
have you heard about the cinivia thing? i don't think that there's a bypass for it, just yet...i may be wrong, though.
