I had no idea this exists, and it's pretty entertaining. Like watching and listening to an RC car race, but they are 1:1 scale

The action starts at the fourteen minute mark:

I've watched a few times, it's interesting for sure, but the sound is hard to get used to.

the first race was kinda neat. the wreck was ridiculous.

it feels like a time warp to hear the names prost, senna, and piquet.

Just not right, hearing almost nothing as they pass. Mandatory sound system belting out [insert your favorite F1 engine sounds here]? I like the idea. I mean, if this effort really does ultimately get into daily drivers, I'm all for it. But, the idea of NO "proper" engine really kills the idea for me. There's just something about hearing an engine turn to near impossible revs.

That's an old-timer's point of view, but I can't disagree with you completely.

The thing that I kind of find weak is that they have to change cars in the middle of the race because the batteries run out, lol.

What led me to look into it was an article I read that said the head of Virgin was developing an electric car to compete with the Tesla S, and that the technology was being fueled by all the interest and technology in their Formula E race car.

I was so excited when I heard of this coming out...but the fact that they literally get it of their cars and into a new one midway through the race is stupid. Just run a series of 15 lap races...

It would be cool if tesla joined however.

It's interesting to watch. They have to be mindful of the battery level, obviously, but they can also choose when to employ regenerative braking, and some other neat stuff. I understand why they want the races to be longer; it gives the drivers more time to move up and down in the pack, but I do agree that it's stupid that they have to completely change cars in the middle of the race.

Change batteries, not the car. Pit stop strategy and same car set up. Saves money, effort, time, and adds some dynamics.

That's what I was thinking. Make the batteries modular, and change them instead of the whole car. Seems like all those batteries would be pretty damn heavy, though.

What ever the weight, the method/contraption required to change would HAVE to be cheaper than a whole other car.

they're also all 270hp, limited in the race to 180hp
