if it is anything like that battery-powered Mercedes performance car then the battery system is basically built into the chassis.

They actually all use the same battery box last I read, but along the same spirit of your comment, the location of the battery is a challenge for quick change and would require substantial effort to just replace.

But more importantly, the batteries are a few hundred pounds, are liquid cooled and there are a lot of safety concerns. Its not quite as easy as popping in a few AAs.

Part of a spectator experience is visceral. Hearing absolutely nothing as the cars whrrrrrr by would completely destroy the sensory/visceral experience of "being there".

Might as well watch an F1 race on mute on your TV at home.

Starts are one of the best parts of many races. And by choosing when to use regenerative braking...that actually means lifting off the gas early going into a corner. This is the exact opposite of pushing a race car to me...and that's another thing I don't like. Just like in F1 when they have you stop pushing to save fuel and tires.

Now if they had 2 starts, and were allowed to bust ass the entire time...that would be great.

Yea I agree, and with th state of F1 right now I wonder how popular this is going to be with fans but perhaps more teams.

I think this article sums up what most of us are thinking. However, it also puts an interesting spin on where the cars are, relative to the early 1900's Indy 500. Electric cars in the Indy 500
