All new apartment buildings have Goodman's installed (300+units). Probably the same for all new homes in the entry level price point. Apartments get built, filled with tenants, and then sold. The builder/owner/seller doesn't give two hoots about the AC, they just need it to work for 18 months. Sounds like a great sales job, selling Goodman's to corporate accounts.
I bought a duplex for a friend of mine a few years back, and it had 2 year old Goodman's outside. Within a year, the outside unit was having issues, and I remember my AC guy (who I referred to my buyer client to fix his issue) saying that Goodman's rusted easily and broke frequently. I manage a newer condo that had the AC break, fortunately it was under warranty, and the same guy fixed it, and it was also a Goodman.

I don't do installs but I can get you equipment and you can get someone to install it. Trane, Goodman, Rudd. FYI , the feds set the seer rating on equipment, Carrier Trane Goodman Rudd Lennox Heil York Mitsubishi LG Goldstar Friedrich Amana Ferrers all have to pass the Feds SEER tests.
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.

He said it was a 13 seer, better than the 6 seer we currently have, he said I could do a carrier 16 seer for 3500 or a trane 16 seer for 3600, so I guess I'm going to go with one of those two, so should I go 14 seer or 16 seer on a 1100 Sq ft home with 10 ft ceilings? ?
Its actually illegal to install less then 14 seer as of Jan 1st so hopefully he is offering 14 and up. (this is for complete systems not if your doing pieces and parts). Some goodman are cheaper but if you get he copeland compressor in it its still very similar to the others. the compressor is the biggest and most important piece I would say with the A/C. Look at the compressor on all the brands you mentioned and they are all copelands or have copeland as an option.
Its just my opinion but I believe a properly installed system is all that matters regardless of brand. I just put in a 2 stage 16 seer heat pump during christmas break and I am positive its saving me a ton. I would worry more on finding a quality guy to install then the brand..
Hopefully there is some way to tell what the compressor is on the outside. Might just have to look up the model number. Maybe I got lucky and got one of the good copelands
Also whoops, come to find out mine is a goodman lol. Oh well. Still got the 10 year parts and labor so, no care. Don't plan on living here long enough for it to shit on itself, let it be the next guy's problem.
Derrrr shit I can't remember. I think it was 1400.00. Who knows how much difference either one made I just know it could be 112 outside and you were freezing inside mid seventies. Plus my 4 year old or so AC system would never cut off. The new set up would run about 15 minutes and cut off for a while.
Current house has 4 attic vents and a 3.5 outside with a 4 ton inside and gas heat. Really the first house I have bought that cycles in the summer. It also has two vents in the garage I have never capped off. Wife likes the subtle difference in temps it provides from the bitter outdoors!
Let me explain the roof set up a little better. Ok the 4 turbines where separated fairly well on the roof. The blower motor which was somewhere in the size range of a square foot was mounted to a crossbeam in the center of the attic and wired up with a good temperature switch. On the output side he had a piece of tin that he cut to cover the opening with enough to bend down and put a metal screw on all four sides. He cut I believe 4, 4 inch X's in the tin and folded the pieces out towards the attic. He had 4 inch hosing that ran to about flush with the bottom of each Turbine where he just screwed a clamp into. I think he set it at 125 or maybe 135 and it would power up and cool the shit out of the attic. Really reliable VS the shit I have on my roof now but they work so I leave them be. If you think about it not really that much in parts. That guy was a genius when it came to AC stuff. It is a shame he is retired now.

Well with that I could mimic it someday. Might have to do that once I pay off some debt.
I would like a price too. Trane equipment up flow, gas heat.
I have 1500 sq ft of living space. Not sure if I need a 2.5 ton or 3 ton. 14 or 16 seer
What size is it now? normally with good windows and insulation 2.5 is just right for 1500 sq feet. dark roof, no attic ventilation wood windows, airleaks around doors, all this runs up the btu's

I need to look at the compressor and see, if there are even any markings left. It was built in 96. Ranch style home with a basic hip style roof. I've got 2 turbines for ventilation, and it looks like a decent amount of soffit vents, though i haven't verified if they are all unblocked. Windows are double pane aluminum frames. I did what I could to address air leakage when we remodeled. It co sisted mostly of polycel insulation around the exterior doors. I am working on painting the exterior so all of the windows are getting re caulked while I am at it. Our roof is a dark roof as well. So 2.5 is probably going to cover it.
I have a few more energy upgrades I plan to do. The living room has a vaulted ceiling and it needs hot walled in the attic
I can no longer buy trane equipment, only parts. I'm not a Trane dealer
