185/65R15 on 3.5" front runner?

is a 185/65R15 too wide of a tire for a 3.5" front runner wheel? I have had these tires for awhile and I ran them on my malibu several years ago. The problem was that the wheel sat very low in the tire(very close to the ground). It seemed like it was excessive and one speed bump caused my wheel to get a large dent in it. I'm about to purchase a new set of front wheels and put the same tires back on except this time it will be on a different car. Anyone else running this size tire or thing that it might be too large?

It works but that is really wide for a 3.5" wheel.

I run them on my car and people constantly tell me I have a low tire. I like the look and ride of it.
