  • 1996 3.8L Mustang - Safe RPM?

I just had my son's 96 Mustang with a 3.8L rebuild and the car pulls strong up to the redline (5000) and it seems like it wants to keep going past redline, but I haven't taken it beyond that yet.

I wanted to know what the RPM limit is for a stock bottom end.

FYI - the cam and valve spring power range is 1500 - 5800 RPM.
1991 Mustang GT - 127,000 miles, original owner
1996 Mustang GT - 84,000 miles, all original but 3.90 gears

i'm sure 5800 is fine for a stock bottom end .. I spin my 4.6 to 6500 without issue ...

I don't see why 6500 rpm would be a deal breaker on that bottom end. Unless it were horribly unbalanced.

Should have spent the extra coin to blueprint and balance the motor, then slap a bigger cam in it. Those 6'ers sound pissed off around 8000 rpm.

You're right, but this kind of grew into something other then what was originally planned after the shortblock was built.
