  • Manual brakes: Who has them?

Decided to go manual brakes on the car. Will allow so much space and weight to be freed up plus the ability to get more radical on the camshaft.

I'll be using the maximum motorsports kit with the upgraded brake pedal. They recommended a 15/16s bore master for easy pedal effort and 1in for a firmer feel.

I have the Baer t4 4 piston calipers with 13inch drilled / slotted rotors, cobra vented 11inch rear disk. Baer pads up front and some stock pads in the back. (Possibly upgrading to 13" rear rotors as well), adjustable proportion valve, removed the stock one. Of course steel braided hoses front and rear.

Anyone have personal feedback on manual brake pedal effort/feel?

It'll be around 2600lbs and with this brake set up it should stop well, just worried if my leg will cramp up before it stops rolling or not..

I've only had experience with a 98 cobra without the hydrobooster and it was scary... Having to downshift into first to get it to slow down, while attempting to push the seat studs out, wasn't my idea of a good time.

The 68 coup, 351, auto,1972 14 inch disk front, 10 inch drums in the back. Wife didn't like the 1 inch manuals ( to hard to push for her ),so I put on a 15/16 and it's soft enough for her. Do have a front to rear proportional valve.

I just ordered the 93 cobra master with the 1 inch bore. I like quick acting and short travel with a firm pedal. Hopefully it meets my expects.

I bought pentosin super dot 4 fluid. Anyone ever use this stuff? Looked fancy.

Since you have Baer calipers I would suggest a call to them for info on proper sizing of the M/C.

I asked maximum motor sports and told them my caliper piston sizes.

I have the MM manual pedal and cobra master on the fairmont. No problems racing it for 2 hours around a road course.

I have a cobra MC, cobra 13" brakes, stock sn95 rears.. I modified the pedal moving the rod pivot point 1.25" up.. Its way to hard. Stops well but it not enjoyable.. I will be switching to a smaller MC to gain some pedal travel.

You do gain a fair amount or room with booster gone.. But it doesn't weigh much at all when you pull it and are holding it in your hands..

If you correct the pedal ratio once you remove the booster you do not wind up with a really hard pedal. On one of my SVO's I went nuts with the brakes and found that trying to stick with a stock style MC was pointless and I got a pedal assembly from Pegasus racing, sectioned a portion of the firewall and welded in a large plate to mount the pedals to and used 2 small MC's.

You can find a small diameter dual diaphragm booster that gives plenty of room and that will still have the same amount of assist as the stock setup even when the idle vacuum is getting kind of low.

I switched out MCs to a stock fox one.. I plugged the 3rd port on the bottom to keep my 2 port line configuration the same.. Brakes feel way better.. Now I can actually move the pedal and modulate the brakes.. Not just stand on them with full force.

I've run nothing but manual brakes on my 66 and it has never given me issues. Now with the 13" cobra fronts, 11" explorer rear and a 99 v6 master I don't know. I'm also going full braided, not an inch of rubber line on the car.

I have 12.5" front discs and whatever size are the rear from an 07 GT on a non boosted system, car stops great and the pedal isn't so bad. I hated my drums.

Unfortunately one of my metal lines fatigued and snapped a few weeks ago. Replaced it and will be bleeding this weekend, so maybe things will change.
