how to keep rtv from drying out

I have been buying the expensive ass "Right Stuff" They come in fancy pressurized cans, you leave a little hanging out of the top and pull it out like a plug when you need to use it again, issue is that it never works, for me at least.
Does anyone have any tricks to keep this stuff from drying out? I always have to unscrew the cap and pick the shit out of the top with a screwdriver or a nail until i can get it all cleared out.
