  • help me with my 98 cobra and what is it worth?

i can't locate an annoying under hood rattling. it began occurring soon after i had a maximum motorsports road and track kit installed. at first it didn't occur much and now it occurs frequently and more loudly. if i slowly engage first gear i hear it. i also hear it when driving over bumps. revving the engine in neutral will not cause the sound. it sounds like two metal parts rattling against each other.

maximum motorsports thinks i may need to shim the struts - i didn't realize that was necessary? what is a good shop for me to bring it to diagnose and fix?

i also want to sell it. what do you think it is worth as is (assuming a strut shim) and with the issue fixed? here are the details:

98 laser red cobra, 53k miles, black interior, never wrecked or raced
interior: 9 out of 10 (steering wheel paint is peeling at top), typical rattles/squeeks for old mustang
exterior: 7 to 8 out of 10 (swirl marks, couple minor scratches/dings)
rattling issue described above + throw out bearing sometimes squeeks a little (very little but noticeable and hasn't changed in years i've owned the car)
    tires: 50% tread
mods: maximum motorsports road and track kit, 03 cobra style front control arms, suspension mods only 2 years old and <3k miles, tint, shorty antenna, magnaflow exhaust (modified by kinny's to fit around panhard bar)

I would check the nuts on the top of the struts. If the nuts are bottoming out before the shaft is tight then you will get a rattle. Seen it many times. Also verify the cc plates are installed correctly and everything is tight. Again seen many times they were not installed correctly and worked loose. Good luck

My bet would be on the c/c plates as well. I had a bad bushing in one of mine a while back. It's hard to detect because it has so much tension on it. I didn't realize mine was bad until I took the spring out.

Depending on if that 53K is accurate and the condition of the car, I would say your value is anywhere between $7,500-$10,000.

          Shorty antenna? At least 25k.
