Very straight car. Mechanically it is about as stock, but as good as you can get. Body is really straight, only 2-3 small dings that I have found, but it needs paint. It's spent a lot of time in the sun so the whole hatch is chalky, and the roof and hood have lost much of the clear.

Interior is all there and decent. I'd want to give it a good cleaning, new foam for the seats, and a couple of small pieces here and there.

It really is a very good / solid car, and I would be happy to have it for me, let alone for my 16 year old son.

Plans / goals.. The deal is, we got him the car, but from here it's on him, so ultimately it will be for him to decide. I am encouraging him to stick to restoration only, and only start on the go fast stuff once the car is clean. Get him to turn some wrenches, focus on what is going to add value, and learn to drive and drive this car before worrying about "going fast".

I look forward to messing with this thing for the next couple years.

Next year you'll be able to register it as an "antique", which only requires the rear plate, and no annual inspection. Do you feel old now? . The first thing I'd upgrade is the brakes! Even if you're going to keep it 4 lug, put some stainless lines, caliper sleeves, PF pads or something similar, etc. If it still has the stock plastic quadrant, I'd upgrade that, and put a decent shifter in it as well.

Front plate on a fold up slider? They make a kit for this. I have a very clean coupe that I just put a factory license plate bracket on for this same reason. You get used to the look, hell they came that way.

I was going to suggest getting a factory mount from LMR, but since Matt pointed out it won't need one next year I think I'd put it on with some double sided tape or ride it dirty for a year.

Its not really hard to make your own out of some 3/4 strap aluminum and drill the rebar. Ive done it before.

IIRC, just having one of those installed on your car in texas is a class A mr meaner.

The antique plate registration is not ideal for a daily driver. It could cause him problems also. It is meant for driving the car to and from car shows or parades. That is how it is written in the guidelines concerning it.

GOt that right, even had a Dallas cop ask why my car wasn't tagged as such. When I told him I drove it every day he said "Oh we never enforce those laws" sure thing buddy

Its a mustang. Drill some holes in the bumper and move on.
