  • Feels like I'm asking permission to cheat, but anyone know a good boat forum?

I have a '93 (not a baller) Mastercraft that bogs at tip in, both F & R. Carb was rebuilt this weekend, idles fine, runs well otherwise except that it runs too cool (120 all the time, or colder, but that's the needle's starting point). Motor is pretty clean all around (GT40 headed 351), new wires & plugs, shouldn't be a tuning issue, but I won't rule that out.

It's frustrating for docking manuevers, as it doesn't like to move slow, would rather die.

Speaking of that, the next gear that it obviously finds is just above no-wake, and it will cruise at 10mph all day long, just fine, it's just the 12-10:30 or 12-1:30 throttle positions that chokes it down.

Guess I'll plug a hose up to that bitch & have the wife move the throttle while I watch the linkages, but... barring anything that's apparent to the naked eye, I would appreciate anyone with experience with a boat specific forum.

wakeworld.com is where you need to be shy of a mastercraft specific forum... or you could just get rid of that and buy my Supra which would make you happier anyways.

I'll take you up on the wakeworld link

The Iboat forums don't appear to have Indmar/Ford specific forums. It's probably code names.

What carb are you running on it? Could be an adjustment problem with the accelerator pump portion of it.

stock 600cfm, and while I just rebuilt it, I wouldn't know how to check that action (without reading the directions). I guess it should get a little squirt as soon as I've shifted out of neutral?

what kind of carb is stock, holley, carter, rochester, ect. I'd guess holley or motorcraft considering it's a Windsor, but I'm not familiar with mastercraft (great looking boat by the way). If it's a holley then there is a pump adjustment, if it's motorcraft I'd have to see a pic of the carb. It should pump fuel as soon as there is any accelerator movement.

Stock Holley square bore, dual inlet, vacuum secondaries, electric choke.

Have you looked into why it runs so cold? Almost sounds like there is no thermostat in it.

My boat runs at about 170-180

Mine is grumpy in this weather also. Since I'm carb stupid, I'm going to leave it alone until its 90-100 out and hope the adjustments are just set up for that lol

I presume such. I will be pulling the neck off to check.

Figured you would check into it.

Very nice boat. One of the best hulls ever made....for wake building.

In this weather my boat is running 130-150. And it takes it forever to get to it. Unless I'm cruising around for a bit it never goes over 120.

Boats typically run cooler than cars, in the dead of texas summer my mercruiser runs a consistant 140, the oem temp on the thermostat is 140.

Being it's a holley it could just be the adjustment is out. There is a cam on the throttle linkage that manipulates the arms for the pump stroke. In front of the throttle linkage should be a bolt with a spring, and a nylock nut running through a lever and resting on the accelerator pump arm. I generally tighten the nut until there is slack in the pump arm and then back it off until the slack is just gone, Kind of like zero lash when adjusting valves. I'm sure someone on here, google, or youtube can provide a better explanation.

Mainly, if there is slack in your setup right with the choke not set, then you aren't getting a shot of fuel on the initial hit.
