Hopefully none. If there is a poor ground you'll see it as resistance in the cable. I try to eliminate the easy stuff first.

With charging issues, stuff like that ( when you have a new alternator, new battery) tends to manifest itself in the form of bad grounds.

Ohm the negative cable to the body and engine, as well as the positive cable to the alternator, both cables disconnected from the battery.

If they both check out, hook them back to the battery, turn the key on and check the two other smaller wires coming off the alternator. They both need to have power in order for the alternator to produce voltage. If all of that checks out fine, you have a bad alternator.

No it does not. It's located on the alternator.
              Good thought though.

So it turned out to be a simple issue. The wire coming from the alt to the battery had broken inside the shielding so I couldn't see it.
Volt meter found the break. Wire replaced and viola the charging system works perfectly.

Now to bleed the brakes and its on the road.

Cheapest running project I've had so far!

Thanks for all the input. The updated & extra grounds will pay off in the long run I'm sure.

And as far as I know so far, I believe it has all the dowel pins in it.

                    :-)

I will. It ain't no beauty queen!!
Picked it up through Ft Worth impound auction CHEAP!
Clean, fix, & flip is the plan on it.
Might keep it for a while though. Still undecided.

Soon as I get it home and cleaned up I will post up some pics.
