"It is carcinogenic, as well as toxic and requires very special techniques for machining. Investment casting of precision shapes that require little machining is the way to go. Tooling cost it's also incredibly expensive when working with this material."
We found out about it when we first started dropping the Pylons on the Airbus A300-600R's. Pylon-to-Wing mounts were made of that stuff. Had corrosion in the bores. AB gave us limits to how much material could be removed before the part had to be scrapped. The machine Shop spent BIG bucks for the filtration system needed to evacuate the dust/particulates. Ended up replacing them with new components .
