How long does a motor carrier normally keep gps data of where a truck was at?

Depends on the system they use , if its a owner operator , they might not even have any. The feds are working towards having it in all trucks but, not there yet.

Some hold info for 6 months

Our system goes back a week. Did you get name of company and number off of truck?

Trailer info is often not correct, since they sell them and forget to pull logos off, etc.

Did he cut you off in traffic or something ?

No. I think he was involved in a theft this morning. If not the one to break in he was on watch.

Babaco systems go back at least 6 months. I'm not sure about other systems. We used the speed data once to counter a state troopers testimony in court. He had stated that the truck passed in an unsafe manner, at an unsafe speed. We were able to show that the truck was going the speed limit consistently, and never changed lanes on the stretch of road in question. This was in Montana.

Pretty sure that was the first time the trooper had hard data contradict him.

                  That's messed up. Was there a DOT#, MCC#, TXDOT# on the cab?

I know the name on the trailer. They are not hard to find. I hope the investigator checks with the company and see who was in the truck and question them.

tanker truck should be fairly easy to pin down , many more regs to deal with

I would think a tanker truck would be the easiest to track.
