I just love it when it starts hailing and people want to stop on the roads underneath the overpasses. Hey that's fine, I get it, maybe you could pull off to the side so you're not blocking traffic that actually wants to get through. No I guess that would be too much to ask for you to move your fucking vehicle out of the way since I'm already caught out in the hail anyway and am trying to get to my parking garage as quick as I can.

I'm wondering now if it would be worth it to file a claim with my homeowners insurance or not and for damage to my roof. I actually do need a new roof soon within the next few years. Anyone filed such a claim before? How did it turn out?

Why? Allstate put a new roof on my house a few years ago.

Allstate sucks, they fought me on my roof a few years ago. I took them to arbitration and won. They also had to pay punitive damage --- Took me a year of battle to get them to pay.

They paid my on my water leak under my slab within hours. It was very pain free.

WTH? You had an under the slab leak and they covered that? When I called my agent, they said my coverage stopped at the slab I was SOL for anything below it.

On that note, I had my roof replaced with Allstate about 5 years ago now. I was responsible for the 1% deductible and good to go. The adjuster at the time said roofs in Texas last average about 9 years before needing replacement due to our weather.

From what I was told, that was a relatively new addition to thier policies at that time, and they paid for max ($5k) when I sent he bill for two slab access holes cut and 9' of tunneling under to replace the broken line. It covered the plumbers, at least.

No I don't have Allstate but my insurance agent I've been with now for almost 10 years has been good to me.

Back when Mike was still around and did some minor leak repair on my roof (RIP MikeC), he showed me how to spot the occasional roof damage such as from hail, essentially just looking at the impact spots on the shingles. If I call my agent up and file a claim for hail damage, I assume the adjuster will want to check the roof out also?

And who is the dfwm recommended roof guy now?

My roof is 15 years old and is a steel roof. I wonder if I should start checking for leaks. It's screwed into steel I beams so I shouldn't have an issue but.... I'm going to start adding it to my list of monthly checks.
