  • AT&T vs Verizon cell service

OK, so this is my final week of working at my current gig. I have a cell phone with AT&T service, my hardware, but the company foots the bill on the corporate plan. I have to either cancel it, or move it to my personal AT&T account tomorrow/Friday.

AT&T service at my house sucks balls. I have a Microcell to boost the cell reception, but it still blows. I can add it to my existing plan and will increase the bill about $55 or so, plus I keep my Galaxy S6.

Other option, go to Verizon and add a new line to Lyn's account there (iPAD), but I think with taxes, and a new phone through them, it'll be closer to $70 per month. Her iPAD does get better service at home (when not on Wifi) than our phones show (4 to 5 bars vs 1), so that is a big plus.

Anyone had good/bad experiences with Vz and AT&T both?

Verizon has good service, but it certainly isn't cheap.

I've had both. Hands down Verizon's service is better and more expensive.

I got tired of att dropping calls all the damn time, especially while talking to customers, so I switched to Verizon and have never been happier. I did this when smart phones became popular (Droid X for me) and I have been a Verizon customer ever since. Motorola phones have been great I'm on a Droid Turbo now, battery lasts forever.

I can't remember the last time my phone(att) has dropped a call. Anytime I have had shitty service, so has everyone with other carriers.

Another vote on the service being much better with Verizon....I switched last year. On ATT our cell phones were 1-2 bars at best at the house (we live close to the Denton/Wise county line. I usually had to go outside to have a reasonable phone conversation.

We also had a fiasco with ATT when the iPhone 6 came out...wife and daughter were on a waiting list for weeks, they screwed up and mailed them to the wrong customer. It literally took screaming phone calls and several days to get those credited back to our account, and then to make it worse they put them back to the end of the waiting list with zero added priority for their replacement phones....they treated us as-if their screw up was our fault. Luckily for us, they also pulled that stunt while we were outside of any contract....so we pretty much ran to Verizon. We've found Verizon's customer service to be MILES ahead of ATT as well...wife and daughter had their new iPhones within 24-hours of us signing up too....no waiting list bullshit. ATT can eat a bag of dicks as far as I'm concerned.

We switched from Sprint to Verizon a few years ago and I have been happy with it. We don't get a great signal at home (usually 1-2 bars) but that said, I have not dropped a call from home, either. The internet speeds seem to suffer based on signal, but that's only until I remember I have wifi turned off.

Not a fan of the bills, of course, particularly with 4 phones and a tablet.

Sprint was shit at home, and dropped calls all the time.

I've had VZW Sprint and ATT, currently ATT is the best IMO in the DFW area, different metro areas will be different.

For our house, Verizon is all that gets a good signal. The wife is still on ATT and won't change, but gets damn near no signal at our house. That said, I've never had an issue with Verizon Wireless, I get a discount from work, but it still isn't cheap. 90/mo for 1 line, unlimited talk and text, and 3GB of data.

Dont most providers let you use your home wifi for home calling now?

I have VZW and love it. I probably wouldn't have it if my work didn't pay for it. Yay to true uncapped unthrottled LTE!

Cool, seems like Vz is going to be my choice. I'll switch it to AT&T (on my current plan Lyn uses), then next week port my number to Vz, rather than get a new number.

VZW does with "HD voice" or whatever they call it now but I believe you have to initiate the call on their LTE network.

I've had Verizon for 10+ years and the only real dead zone I've found was in the Piney Woods of East Texas.

In case anyone was wondering (I'm sure several of you were!), I just got off the phone with AT&T Business and switched it to our personal AT&T account. That only took 45 minutes!
I'll be going to Vz and porting my number over to them and a plan they have with Lyn's iPad.

If anyone is in the market for an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6, I'll have one available shortly! Perfect condition, no scratches at all.

You can't keep your phone with VZW? I'm fairly sure they use the same networks.
