  • Can I sell my beater to carmax?

I have a 2000 civic with 146k miles and hail damage. Other than the fact that it's ugly, it's perfect mechanically and the interior is fine. Newish brakes, new radiator, etc.

My sister moved, left me with it and a POA. I can't find the title, the registration and inspection are both out.

Will carmax buy it with expired everything, no title, and my POA? It only blue books at 1700 private party so it would cost more in time to sell it than it's worth and I don't want to inspect/register/get lost title....

They used to not purchase anything over 100,000 miles, but from what I understand that has changed. The no title thing though, you're screwed.

I once had a Ford Escort Wagon with 200k miles, ugly as sin, a knock in the motor, and the clutch went out for a second time (several years apart). My apartment complex put a tow notice on it for expired stickers after it had been sitting for a few weeks. I just cleared all of my stuff out of it and let them tow it.

I need to store my boat over here for a little while and if I don't sell her car I'm going to have to pay for boat storage (I've had it sitting here for a year and a half).

I guess I'll go get the title tomorrow. With the title I can probably sell it on Craigslist in a few days at a low price.

They will let you leave it on their lot, if you give them $800 or so. They are cheaper than the average DFWM'er.

Years ago I went to them and out of curiosity asked if they wanted my '94 Geo Prizm with 115K miles. They offered me $25.
