I stuck a few in the bed of my truck from my teens to late 20s but haven't and probably won't now that I'm married/a dad. Nobody ever got rowdy and were always thankful.

I sorta did myself once when I was around 17. My truck broke down a little outside the metromess and a nice old guy picked me up and took me to the parts store. I told him I would walk back and he refused to let me walk. Waited for me to buy what I needed and toted me back to my truck. I tried to give him some cash for gas but he refused that as well.

I guess I got lucky that he was just a very nice fellow and didn't want to touch my butthole or wear me like a suit. Good folks still out there.

I had not seen anyone hitch hiking in a long time. What's funny is, there was an older man on 1187 this morning standing there with his thumb out. Was that you Eric?

I see a bunch of people on I20 walking/hitching. I've never stopped though, because I normally have tools/equipment in the bed of the truck. I assume they're fairly successful in getting picked up though.

On a related note : About 10 years ago an acquaintance of mine decided he was going to ride the rails when he got out of high school. Did it fairly successfully(didn't get killed or arrested) for about 2 years then came back and went on to college. Lived the pure hobo lifestyle.

                  A few random things:

-My granddad used to pick up people all the time but he always to make sure and have an empty gun holster on the dash of his truck when he did. They immediately started to wonder where the gun was.

-Back in the 60s and 70s it wasn't uncommon for people to try to get a piece of ass out of their new passengers. Free love, hippies and all that shit.

-One of my brother's friends picked up a little blonde midget girl who was thumbing it on the side of I20 in Arlington one night. He took her to a party and ended up banging her.

I've picked up people hitch hiking or just walking down the road, most had a vehicle broken down somewhere. I don't do it if I have passengers, and I always have at least one pistol ready to go generally next to my leg and the center console out of site to the passenger.

I've picked up folks that were obviously broken down, but never legit hitch hikers.
