I'm "on call" 24/7/365. The only way for me to lounge around like that, and it be completely stress free, is to do it out of the country. Like I said, I enjoy the other stuff too. But my idea of vacation is lounging around without a care in the world. I mean, I could do that in my backyard. But, it's ugly, no women in bikinis, no ocean, and no waiter/waitress, and that goddamned cell phone ringing off the hook.

Meant to ask you, did you supply the equipment at the Winewood Grill in Grapevine?

All of the bar equipment is mine, and some of the cooking equipment. Same goes for the rest of the places that are in that same area (Bob's, Fireside, Mi Dia).

That's what I thought. I took my mom there for brunch, and while there we took a walk through the place. She was blown away by their kitchen equipment, especially the badass meat slicer. lmao

I don't think I've seen the slicer. I'm going to Bob's tonight, I'll have to go check it out.

We did Bob's on Friday with my parents, thankfully it was back to normal (ie great). Last time we went, a couple months ago, we were disappointed with the food and service. Must have just been a bad night.

On topic: I have done a couple all inclusives (Playa) and really enjoyed them, other than the oppressive heat. We combated that by staying in the pool or ocean as much as possible. We did several excursions, all bought through the hotel concierge, and were satisfied with price and all.

I also like cruises though. I have done 3, and other than my ship account getting a bit high, I have no real complaints.

The danger in Mexico is extremely over hyped in my opinion. Don't worry about anything

Just got back from Barcelo Maya Colonial on May 20th. Took my daughter and fiance for her college graduation present and my wife's parents went also. Absolutely loved the resort. Next time we will stay at the Palace side. Stayed at the Bahia Principe Tulum last year and loved it also but not quite as much as Barcelo Maya.

This was my 8th trip to Mexico and I can say that just about anywhere in the riviera maya I have no worries. We like to get out and do things on our own and avoid the tour company crowds. We have rode in taxis and collectivas all over the area and walked the towns without any problems and we speak little to no Spanish. I have been to Ixtapa and Puerto Vallarta and I wouldn't be as comfortable exploring in those areas anymore. Just to much cartel activity on the Pacific side near the mountains these days.

Not sure if it was mentioned or not but when you land, DO NOT waste your time with the people at the airport offering discount tickets. Your resort will offer the same thing and you wont have to sit through any time share crap. Just keep walking past them, even the ones offering to direct you to your bus but need to pull you aside.

Take a big mug like from Racetrak or QT. When you sit at the bar the first day, put the mug and a $5 on top of it and it will never get half empty.

Do Chichen-Itza, Xel-Ha, Dolphinius for swimming with dolphins, there's a speed boat/ATV tour that was a lot of fun and Tulum if you can do both it and Chichen-Itza. If it's between the two, do C-I. Have a blast!
