  • Is there any way to get cheaper nice rental cars?

Im going to be in Denver Co from June 1-13. Im planning on renting a car for Sat/Sun so I can drive around the mountains. I looked at a convertible stang but $170/day is too damn high. Is there any way to get a discount?

Wow thats expensive! I rented a convertible and it was ~50 a day. I also reserve a economy car and let them up sell me to a nicer car.

Not really, unless have a coupon of some sort. I did notice that Airport rentals are more than other city rental places. I thought about getting the Hotel shuttle and then get the rental place to deliver the car to me, but I didn't feel like fucking with all that since it only saves a few dollars over all and not worth the hassle.
Also you get what you pay for, Hertz, Budget seem to have nicer newer cars than Enterpise and Dollar rental.

I went to www.retailmenot.com and tried each coupon code for Hertz, Avis, and Enterprise till I found the best rate.

If you walk into an Enterprise office and book directly with someone they have a little more room to negotiate than a website. Airport locations cost more because they have to pay higher taxes and usage fees. It's convenient, you pay for the convenience. If your hotel offers a shuttle you can probably get a car delivered and save $8 a day or so.

This is using Hertz government/military rate for a Focus or similar

When I was looking last year for a place to take off to last minute for a couple days, Denver had the highest rental prices of all the places I looked. I could get a cheap flight there, but the rental made it just as expensive as Vegas and a few others I was looking at.

                Get AAA.

They are partnered with Hertz, and renting a car as a AAA member is about a 50% discount, sometimes more.

Example, Hertz offers an Economy Car for $1017/wk without a discount, but it only costs $442/wk with the AAA discount. Denver seems to be high as giraffe pussy as far as cars go. And unfortunately the Hertz at Denver Airport doesn't have any convertibles available.

The Premium AAA membership costs $120/yr and the savings from this rental would cover that. Not to mention all the badass deals you'll also get on hotels and travel offers, and the standard AAA services for tows and auto repairs.
When the government pays, the government controls.

                  Excellent sales pitch, sir.

I had a friend of a friend that worked at Hertz, she got me like 60% off whenever I needed a rental car for a while. I haven't talked to her since returning the rental, so it's a win win situation.

I use priceline and lowball the cheapest option, I think it was around $14/day for an economy car the last time I was in Denver(airport Avis) Then once there I was able to upgrade to a 528i for like $40/day.

Ill get a cheap econo box if I have to. I was thinking it would be better to drive around the mountains in a Mustang vert so I could see the terrain better. Im only going to get it for 2 days. I cant justify $340+ just to have a vert. My company will rent us a 15 passenger van that we can use so If I cant find a great deal on a vert Im going to try to talk the other guys into taking the van. Last time we took the van to Blackhawk casinos and then Pikes Peak on Sunday.
