Probably going to take the family to Maui over spring break week...anybody have any suggestions on where to stay and where not to stay? Thanks.

Been way too long since there to help ya. Been there 4 trips. Kauai twice and the Big Island once. Napali Coast on Kauai was breathtaking on the helicopter tour and the secluded beaches quite "fun".

We stayed at the Mahana at Kaanapali. Great location, had an Ocean view condo. It was fantastic.

We've stayed at the Four Seasons and it was excellent, and would be really good for kids as well. The Fairmont appeared to be a little cheaper and still has a lot of the same activites and what not for kids.

I actually stayed in a Condo. VRBO.com has some awesome deals. We stayed up in Kaanapali for about $100 a night back in 2009.

The condo was a 1br/1ba and had a very spacious kitchen. We went down to the local store and for about $88 we had enough food for the week. We made our own lunches and ate them on a break during the Mt. Haleakala bike trip, I cooked breakfast every morning and there were free grills in the condo complex so we cooked steak/hotdogs/etc..

Very cost effective but the view was incredible (water front condo, balcony was right at the water) we watched the sunsets every night (it faced west)

We don't like big box hotels and 40 story towers very much, so if you want to go this route, I can probably find where we stayed. The owner is awesome and took care of us from San Fran where he lives.

I stayed at that exact same place for 4 days this past summer. It was awesome. We had a 1 bedroom beachfront condo on the 8th floor with a kitchen and all the amenities. I 100% recommend that place! There is a Duke's "On the beach" restaurant within walking distance that was damn good but pricey. But then again, everything is pricey on Maui.

This. We went last August, and stayed in a vacation rental. 2 Bedroom, 1 bath for $200 a night. It was about 2 blocks from the beach.

If you're not wanting the full service hotel, vacation rental is the way to go.

I stayed at the Kaanapali beach hotel.

                    "Hawaii's most Hawaiian hotel"

The hospitality there was amazing, the place was gorgeous and it has one of the better beaches that isn't littered with rocks/debris in the sand.

It was amazing to say the least and I would definitely want to go back. I just hated the flight. lol.

You'll love it along with the woman there.

Definitely do the snorkling for sure and other tours they offer. I liked the "road to hanna" while it is long, our guide was very knowlegable and the island is beautiful.

                        www.vrbo.com

                        Vacation Rental By Owner...

Hotels can't compare in my opinion... and the rates in many cases are comparable to the hotels...

I would like this info if you can find it. Looking at Hawaii as well, and I would rather go this route. Thanks!

Cannon, If you stay on Oahu and go VRBO, I suggest Waimanalo Beach....

Away from the idiotic crowds and the beach is pristine...
