Picking vacation time for work

Does anyone else have to pick their time for the year way in advance? I understand why we have to but man it is a pain trying to line up with schedules for other people.

If your wondering why we have to I have 12 people in my group and we all have at least 3 weeks and 11 weeks of the year are blacked out.

I dont have to worry about other people's schedules so I don't plan ahead too much. Other than a trip to Cabo every summer I don't plan ahead more than a few weeks for anything.

I work with my secretary and the four other people in our department to make sure at least 2 are here so we don't go understaffed. But I have requested vacation off as little as 2 weeks early, no issues.

Request a year in advance also based on seniority its all computer generated with people able to swap but usually everyone pretty happy
