    Awkward conversation last night

    Him: I just want to die...just let me die
    Me: I completely understand and Im on your side with honoring your wishes. We will stop all your care and set you up on a morphine drip to make you comfortable

    10 minutes later after the morphine is going

    Him: Well now what
    Me: I dunno !?!
    Him: Well how long is this going to take?
    Me: I dunno ?!?!?
    Him: Well what do I do now?
    Me: I dunno?!?!!?!?!?!

    This is the first time I have ever had a patient completely alert and oriented that was just sitting around waiting to die. I was blindsided by the questions and honestly had no idea what to say. I didnt expect him to last that long the way he was bleeding internally...

    2 hours later:
    Him: Well now what...
    Tags: hope it's a what if

    Tell him the reaper is at the White House. At least it will give him a little happiness before he goes or might make him want to fight to stay alive.

        I left work already... Im really not sure. I was assume so...but I also assumed he wouldnt make it the 2 hours he did. Very nice guy...Im glad he could make his own decisions. I find lots of patients dont have that luxury.

          Tough decisions...but an even tougher job for you, as you don’t have the pain/suffering motivating you like the patients do.

          Maybe his body wasnt as ready as he thought...
