I do a lot of trading. Usually, it works out in my favor.

A lot of people have the item you want sitting around and don't feel like selling. IE I'm trying to trade my pit bike for a kayak right now. Since I'm not in a hurry, don't need to cash, and can't use a kayak until spring, I might as well sit on the pit bike until someone pops up with a fishing kayak I want. If not, I'll buy one in the spring and sell the pit bike, the value of both will go up in the spring so I won't loose out waiting.

I prefer cash, but I'll trade straight or with cash only if I can then double the profit I'm looking for on the deal. Because I'm then forced to male another deal

X2. Soon as I sell something or do a side job my wife reminds me of some bill that needs to be paid or something we're suddenly in dire need of.

Only time I trade is if I come out ahead in the deal, but as Jody said, taxes (which I don't think is valid anymore with presumptive value).

In hopes they can find someone that has to have what they are offering and is willing to trade something of higher value. Pretty easy concept.
