My wife is in a panic because her dad was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease at stage three. Anyone here have it? I'm trying to reassure her that its as bad as she is taking it. Webmd says its easily treated with diet change, dialasys(sp?) etc.

Tanner, my Dad was on the far end of stage 4 when he was diagnosed (he later went to stage 5). The doctor told him that had he been diagnosed at stage 3 or earlier, his prognosis would have been much better, plus he would have been young enough to be a candidate for transplant I f needed. His diet helped, but ultimately, he had to go on dialysis 3 times a week. It wasn't his kidneys that finally got him, but an unrelated stroke.
If your FIL is early in stage 3, and it is not a chronic condition (like my Dad with polycystic kidneys), he should do well with the standard treatments. In other words, there's a good chance that he'll be around for many more years. Just have to stay on top of it."It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Ill take any personal experiences. Im looking for first hand experiences with this. This man and I never really talked till the last few years. (Known him for 12 years) I do care for him and don't want to go into this thinking stage 3 was death to all who have it. He is a bad diabetic unfortunately, but it could be alot worse. My wife is the type that will cry and worry about the small things. With my own wife's current health issues, I don't need her worrying more then nessessary.
Thanks in advance.

Diabetes kills kidneys...among other organs. If he doesnt want to have to go to a dialysis center 3 times a week for 4hrs each time, then he needs to get better control of his blood sugar. He needs to check in 2-3 times a day and keep a log. He then needs to see his doctor with this log so the doctor can help him keep his blood sugar in check. Diabetes doesnt have to be a death sentence, but for many folks it is because they do not want to change their diet, check their blood sugar, take their meds...etc.
